Quietly Playing

When I was a little girl, I spent hours playing with a quiet book that my mom made for us.  It had felt balloons that snapped on and off strings, tiny clothes that velcroed to a clothesline, and a string of trains with buttons for wheels.  I so wish I still had that quiet book.  I really wanted my girls to have one of their own, and with the only template being the images in my head from twenty-something years ago, I set out on a mission to make four quiet books, so each of my girls and my niece would have one to keep for as long as they wish.  Zippers, snaps, and buttons.  Felt flowers and ladybugs.  Crayon pockets and a purse for hair clips.  A princess with yarn hair for braiding.  And the most incredible paper doll replicas cut from fabric.  This project was really a challenge for a visual girl like me.  I ditched some ideas and came up with others once the pieces on each page were spread out in front of me.  This was no small feat, but I love how the books turned out and I think the girls love them, too!

  1. Hi your blog and the projects you do are amazing. As a mom of 2 little ones, I admire you for finding the time and creativity to do such wonderful projects. I just love this quiet book you put together. Would you share more pictures? Some of the pages that you described for the book like the hair braiding sound adorable. I would love to do something like this for my girls. Thanks!
